I bought a ruby ring that I inherited from my mother.

The ruby ring I inherited from my mother when I was young didn't fit me well and was kept away for a long time. When I was cleaning my house the other day, I thought about it, and I asked Jewel Cafe, who has received tissues several times, for an estimate. I didn't have any knowledge of rubies or her gems, but the female staff kindly explained the gems and grades, so I was relieved. Not only the ruby, but also the design was evaluated, and the price was very good, so I asked you to buy it! Thank you very much.
4.8

I saw a ring that had been sized out.

It was a ring that I bought because I was attracted to beautiful rubies, but I ended up running out of size. It costs money to fix it, and to be honest, the design is old and not modern, so I used a purchase shop for the first time. I learned a lot about the used market and the demand for rubies. The evaluation of the color of the ruby was very good, and the estimate was satisfactory. I was a little nervous, but it was a comfortable shop because many very cheerful women talked to me.

I also bought a necklace with a broken ruby at a high price.

I bought a ruby necklace because I like red and pink, but the chain broke. I sent it in for repair, but it broke again in the same spot. I happened to find Jewel Cafe at the store, so I checked if the broken ruby necklace was okay, and they said there was no problem, so I asked them to buy it. It seemed to be dealing with various gemstones other than rubies, so it was very reliable. There are plenty of services such as coupons and T points, and I would like to ask Jewel Cafe if I find something.
4.8

I was nervous because it was my first time, but they were very accommodating.

We had you look at jewelry treated with ruby which we liked jewelry and collected. Since it was my first time, I was nervous and anxious, and at first I was only going to ask for an estimate, but after listening to a very easy-to-understand explanation and various stories while waiting for the assessment, my nervousness was relieved, and I bought everything. Thank you. It was a ruby that I was very attached to, but I thought it would be better to let the next person use it rather than keep it away. He seemed to have a wealth of knowledge about rubies and other gemstones, which was very interesting. Thank you very much.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs
Q
What is the best time to sell gemstone jewellery??
A
The value of gemstone jewellery goes up and down every day, but the market for second-hand gemstone jewellery is booming, so this is the best time to sell. In addition, the valuation proposed by Jewel Cafe is not only based on speculation on the purchase price of the gemstone jewelry, but also considers various background factors of the jewelry item, so we can always recycle at a higher price.
Q
Is there any additional cost involved in purchasing or assessing gemstone jewellery?
A
Our gemstone jewelry identification service is completely free. Even if you are dissatisfied with the final estimate, we still do not charge any fees. Jewel Cafe is famous for quick store acquisitions, but we also provide free home delivery and on-site acquisition services. Welcome to choose the acquisition method that best suits you.
Q
Any tips for increasing your gemstone jewelry acquisition rate??
A
If you bring gemstone jewelry along with other designer items, this will result in a higher assessed price. Combinations such as "jewelry, boutique bags" or "metals, fine watches, diamonds" are no problem. We will propose a 10–20% bonus for simultaneous identification of a large number of items. For details, please contact the store staff.
Q
I have gemstone jewelry that I want to sell. Do I need to make an appointment?
A
The appraisal of gemstone jewellery does not require an appointment. Welcome to visit anytime! Jewel Cafe's stores are located in prime locations such as MRT stations and department stores, so you can also stop by when shopping. However, when there are many people, you may have to wait for a while, so in order to conduct appraisal and acquisition more smoothly, it is better to make an appointment in advance.
Q
Won't jewelry stores offer higher appraisal prices??
A
it's not true. Only a professional recycling shop like us can offer a higher appraisal price. Jewelry stores only accept trade-in (exchange the value of old jewelry for new jewelry, and recharge if it is not enough), or it is also possible to install the recovered gemstones on another jewelry. On the contrary, Jewel Cafe not only does not reuse the purchased jewelry, but also strives to offer a fairer and more satisfying purchase price.
Q
Can jewelry without warranty be authenticated?
A
We also accept jewelry without a warranty! A warranty can indeed enhance the credibility of the jewelry, but Jewel Cafe is constantly looking for the latest research on gemstone verification and market conditions, so we are confident that we can still provide the jewelry without a warranty. Jewelry offers an appraisal price that will satisfy you.

Ruby items that are often brought in at our shop are rings. There are many designs that surround mere diamond, and there are also rubies installed on the ring that are beautiful. Rubies larger than 3ct size tend to go up in price because they rarely appear on the market. Prices for 5ct and 10ct are even higher, and you can expect particularly expensive purchase of high-quality Myanmar products. Please feel free to contact us once.

Ruby purchase
Trivia of Ruby

HOW TO TIPS

About Ruby purchase

The word “ruby” comes from ruber in Latin which means red. Prior to 1800, red gemstone including red spinel and red garnet were both considered as ruby. Like sapphire, ruby is a variety of mineral called corundum, its main components consist of aluminium and oxygen (aluminium oxide). The ruby is formed when chromium is mixed into the pure corundum which is colorless. For ruby, 1% of chromium is the best amount, but as the chromium amount becomes excessive, the color will turn to grey and result in just an ordinary mineral that doesn’t have any beautifulness. In term of its hardness, ruby has a hardness of 9.0 in Mohs scale, second to diamond which is 10.

Among the corundum, only those that are red will be considered as ruby, the rest will be considered as sapphire. The mining operation in Mogok valley, Myanmar started in 15th century, and later became the main source of rubies. The most significant characteristic of Mogok rubies is its gentle color. Its color is said to be on par with the sapphire from Kashmir and emerald from Colombia (Muzo Mine). In comparison, Mogok rubies are better than Thai rubies, Kashmir sapphires are better than Mogok sapphires, and Muzo emeralds are better than Zambia emeralds. When compared to each other, the better version of the gemstones all have an indescribable yet attractive gentle color.

The main source of rubies is Mogok in Myanmar, while Thailand and Sri Lanka were not regarded as significant as Mogok due to the low quality and quantity of rubies. However, the rubies production from Mogok dropped drastically after the Burmese coup in 1962 and the nationalization of the mines. At that time, the Thai rubies from Thai-Cambodia border including Pailin in Cambodia, that was considered as low quality, were reconsidered again as the technology of color enhancement by heating improved. This lasted until 1993, when the rubies from Mon Hsu in Myanmar gained its share in the market and replaced Thai rubies. Other than the places mentioned, East Africa and Vietnam are also known to produce rubies.
