Oddly enough, watches are just like cars. Watches tend to depreciate most rapidly once they are taken from the store and sold on the secondhand market. Worn or not, once sold considered used.

What Brand of Watches Holds Value

Now, it’s really difficult to mention brands when talking about which brands and watches hold their value best because the truth is that it depends on various factors, such as model, condition, demand, etc.

Something to keep in mind is what actually affects the watch’s resale value. The answer is of course demand on the secondhand market, but also the prestige and reputation, and how people view the brand.

Material Effects Resale Value

When buying luxury watches, it is not uncommon to find some models designed using gold, gems, or jewels. This of course adds to the cost of your watch when purchasing.However, it may come as a surprise but a stainless-steel watch can actually cost more than a full-gold one.

This is because the demand for stainless steel watches is much higher than the demand for gold or two-tone watches. Watches in steel also tend to hold their value much better than those of gold due to gold watches have a higher retail price, and the demand for them is thus not as high on the secondhand market as fewer people can afford them. But also, because people prefer steel over gold. This also generally goes for watches with diamonds.

Other Factors

A watch’s condition that is brand new will obviously be worth more than a watch that is scratched up and worn frequently.

Age is something that also affects a watch’s value, especially if it is the age where the warranty is about to, or has just run out.  The older the watch, the more important servicing the watch becomes. If you have a 10 years old watch but have never sent it to service, this can also affect the price on the secondhand market.

Also, the box and papers are also quite important for a watch’s value. Finally, if you have adjusted the bracelet, the extra parts are also important for resale.

Brands that don’t hold their value as well as Rolex, such as brands like Breitling, Tag Heuer, and Oris, tend to lose between 40-50%, but this is of course when we’re talking short-term, and it’s really difficult to know what will happen if you look at the watch’s value long-term

How much a watch can depreciate will depend on a number of things but mainly it is demand. A particular watch from a brand whose watches don’t generally hold its value may hold its value extremely well if the demand for it is there.

These days, more and more people becoming smart buyers especially when it comes to valuables such as gold and diamonds. Most of us care about how much we may be able to get if we ever need to sell it in the future. Unfortunately, unlike gold, diamonds’ resale value is low.

Unfortunately, this means that the resale value of the diamond will be much lower than what it was purchased for.  

Anyone who has walked into a jewellery store can confirm the high prices of diamond jewellery. According to Business Insider, jewellers often place 100% to 200% mark-ups on their diamond jewellery. Jewellers set these high mark-ups to cover slow-moving inventory, operating costs and of course profit.

As a result of the retail mark-up and the decline in diamond prices, the resale value is typically well below what you paid. Indeed, diamond jewelry will typically resell for 25% to 50% of the purchase price. And even less if your diamond does not come with a certificate.

Nonetheless, you will be able to get some money back if you decide to sell your diamond ring or other diamond jewelry. However, you’ll almost always lose money when you sell your diamond. Because of the markup that’s applied to diamonds, most jewelers, pawn shops and other buyers will only offer a fraction of what you paid for your diamond if you sell 

As we’ve mentioned above, you won’t get back what you paid for your ring, even if it’s in flawless condition. Be realistic about pricing from the beginning and be prepared to deal with selling at a loss.

1. Listen Closely

The simplest test to ensure your Rolex is authentic is the ‘tick test‘.

Place the watch near your ear and listen for any ticking sound. If you can hear a loud ticking (occurring once every second), that Rolex watch is a fake Rolex.

This is because all Rolex manufactured watches are powered by an automatic movement. Automatic movement in a real Rolex watch is absolutely soundless. A ticking sound from the watch would verify the presence of a quartz movement.

2. Check the Back

A real Rolex watch will not have a clear back case. If you can see the watch’s movement inside through the back case, that is most likely a counterfeit Rolex.

With the exception of the Rolex Prince, Rolex does not equip their watches with clear back case.

3. Model and Serial Number

Every single Rolex watch contains an authentic Rolex model and serial number. Even though a Rolex replica seller can copy the model and serial number itself, it will not come close to the way in which Rolex engraves it.

The Rolex model and serial numbers are engraved perfectly smooth and precise.

You can find the model number on the 12 o’clock side where the band meets the lug and serial number on the 6 o’clock side where the band meets the lug, or on the inner bezel on newer Rolex watches.

FENDI HOLOGRAM

Starting from 2004 to 2010 FENDI used holograms to protect their bags from replicas. If your bag produced during this time line, you can try to find hologram on your bag

RFID FABRIC TAG

However starting from 2010 Fendi RFID tags were introduced, replacing Fendi hologram tags.

It is always a fabric tag with 8 digits, sewn on this tag (never printed).

This tag contains a wireless FENDI RFID chip inside.

ATTENTION!! If Fendi have both RFID tag and hologram tag– it is 100% fake!

FENDI SERIAL NUMBER

We also can check authenticity of Fendi bag from its serial number. The serial number is a 16 or 17 symbol number and it is consisting of digits and letters separated by dashes.

It is embossed either on a back side of a leather Fendi logo, or on a narrow leather tag, sewn in a seam in one of the corners or pockets.

It is never made of fabrics.

This is because white gold gets its distinctive “white” colour from the mixture of pure gold with alloy. The reason white gold has lower resale value than yellow gold is because alloy cost less but it also means the purity (karat) of your gold jewelry is diluted.
