November 18, 2020Dior, a brand rooted in history and just as luxurious as it sounds. Its timeless and sophisticated designs continue to catch the eye of women all over the world. But did you know behind every great beauty, there is a story.
Here’s the story behind the iconic Lady Dior Bag.
Lady Dior by Christian Dior
Did you know the bag, was originally named “Chouchou” ?
But what does it mean? Well ‘chouchou’ is a French term of affection.

In September 1995, the soon to be iconic Dior’s bag was given to Diana, Princess of Wales by the France’s first lady, Bernadette Chirac, on the occasion of her visit to Paris.
Princess Diana would later collect the bag in all of its colours and flaunt them at the countless events on her social calendar. From official visits to the Met Gala, both Princess Diana and Dior’s handbag blossomed into fashion icons.
It was soon being described as “iconic” and was launched in larger series, with its name changed from ‘Chouchou’ to ‘Lady Dior’ in 1996 as homage to the Princess Diana.
Dior Unique Charm
The Lady Dior alphabet charms ts dangling alphabet charms, for instance, were not just mere adornments meant to spell “Dior”. They were a nod to Christian Dior’s superstitious beliefs. Like many mystically-minded creatives, he would surrounded himself with talismans and tokens that continue to inspire his designs today.
