White gold gets its distinctive “white” color from the mixture of pure gold with alloy. The reason white gold has a lower resale value than yellow gold is that alloy cost less but it also means the purity (karat) of your gold jewelry is diluted. However, the amount of alloy used does mean the item is more durable and scratch-resistant. Most commonly you can find the karat for white gold is K18 (750) and K9 (375). This means that only 75% for K18 and 37.5% for K9 of pure gold are used. Therefore, it is common for its purity to be lower.

We had a very nice time with this customer. She was thrilled to find out that not only we can buy white gold, but Jewel Cafe can accept broken jewelry as well. She had this broken bracelet for many years and was unsure if she should just throw it out. Thank god she didn't!
