The word ruby is derived from the Latin rubeus, which means red. Prior to 1800, red gemstones were called rubies, including red spinels and red garnets. Ruby is a mineral called corundum, the same as sapphire, and its main components are aluminum and oxygen. Pure corundum is colorless, while ruby is reddish due to the addition of chromium. About 1% chromium is optimal for ruby, but if the amount of chromium increases too much, it will turn gray and cannot be called a ruby, it will be just a mineral without beauty. The Mohs hardness is 9, which is the second hardest after diamond 10, and its Japanese name is corundum. Red corundum is called ruby and all other corundum is called sapphire. Mining in the Mogok region of Myanmar (Burma) began in the 15th century and has been a major production area since then. Mogok rubies are characterized by their soft color. It has the same quality of softness as sapphires from Kashmir and emeralds from Colombia (Muzo Mine). Rubies from Mogok rather than Thailand, sapphires from Kashmir rather than Mogok, and emeralds from Muzo, Colombia than from Zambia, all have indescribably soft colors. Ruby is mainly produced in the Mogok region of Myanmar (Burma), and Thailand and Sri Lanka were not considered important because of their low quality and small quantity. However, the political upheaval in Burma in 1960 and the nationalization of the mines drastically reduced the production of Mogok rubies. Then Thai rubies (including the Pailin district on the Cambodian side of the Thai-Cambodian border), which had been considered to be of low quality at the time, began to be reconsidered. This is because the technology of color improvement by heating has improved. After 1993, rubies from Mon Hsu in Myanmar gained competitiveness in the market and replaced those from Thailand. Others come from East Africa and Vietnam.

Points for purchase / assessment
I bought a ruby!! I heard that you bought it because it was your birthstone, but you brought it in because you haven't worn it once since you bought it and you don't think you will wear it in the future. I bought it as an impulse purchase, so I guess I didn't need to wear it. I laughed and talked to you. You brought it in the same condition as you purchased it, and all the accessories such as the certificate and case were included, so it was a point to improve the assessment. I was very pleased that the amount was better than I had imagined, and I was very happy.
