We all love to buy gold. Most common grade that people buy is grade 916. But do you really know what 916 gold is? Let me tell you a bit about 916 gold.

WHAT IS 916?

916 are one of the varieties for gold’s name. Did you know other terms for 916 gold is K22 or 22 carat. When you want to buy jewelry or ornament, normally you will hear these terms from the seller, “Is it you want to buy 916?”. But do you have any idea what are the meaning for this 916 gold?

916 refer to the purity of the gold which mean it have 91.6% of pure gold for per gram. The rest inside the jewelry are mix with other metal such as copper, nickel, zinc, silver and other metal. If it 100% of gold, the jewelry or ornament gonna be soft and tender. That’s why for jewelry making it not suitable for pure gold. It has to be mixed with other metals to make it durable or strength that can hold the design for each jewelry.

Normally, for jewelry that hold design with stones or diamonds, they will not use fully 999 or 916 gold because these are the softest grade for gold purity. They will mark with the grade 750 to the lowest grade which is 375. Because, they need to mix with lots of other metal in order to make sure it can hold the stones or diamond and can stand the strength and durable to wear.
