What is overhaul (OH)
Even though Rolex is a high quality watch but still its need to be serviced and its best to do before the watch start develop problems. Therefore, it is advised to perform OH once every 3 to 4 years for classic watch and every 10 years for modern watch.
OH means dismantle for cleaning or also consider as “medical check up” for watch. During OH, the watch needs its lubricants replenished and worn components replaced in order to guarantee proper performance.
Overhaul fee
This overhaul is not common to everyone and it is very expensive. Before service, Rolex-certified watchmakers will evaluated the watch based on condition and will give the estimate cost before proceed to overhaul.
Some people might thinks if the watch is expensive there’s no need to overhaul whereas this perception is wrong. Watch is same with car where its need to be service. The higher price of the watch, the service fee will also expensive.
What will happen if do not overhaul?
If do not overhaul, the main concern will be damage on the movement of the watch. Most Rolex watch models have waterproof specification. Oyster Perpetual models waterproof to depths of at least 100 meters, Cellini models 50 meters and some Oyster watches can withstand depths of 1,220 or even 3,900 meters.
However, after using for a long period of time, the deteriorate of the rubber packing between the back cover and case will create gap in between which will cause total damage if the water enter into the watch.
